Vincent Poitout

Vincent Poitout holds a doctorate in veterinary medicine from the École nationale vétérinaire d’Alfort and a doctorate in life sciences from the Université Paris VI. He was a researcher at France’s Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale (INSERM), a principal scientist at the Pacific Northwest Research Institute in Seattle, and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington. In 2005, he joined the Faculty of Medicine at Université de Montréal and the Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Montréal (CHUM) Research Centre. He was professor of medicine at UdeM, director of research and innovation at the CHUM, and scientific director of the CHUM Research Centre for more than 10 years before taking up the position of vice-rector of research and innovation. An internationally recognized authority on type 2 diabetes, his main field of research, he held the Canada Research Chair in Diabetes and Pancreatic β-cell Function from 2006 to 2020. Dr. Poitou is a member of the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences.
