Michel Bouvier, one of the most highly cited scientists internationally

DSC_7566cMichel Bouvier, principal investigator at the Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer (IRIC) of the Université de Montréal (UdeM) and professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine on the Faculty of Medicine as well as president and chief executive officer of IRICoR, ranks on the 2014 list of the most highly cited scientists internationally, all disciplines taken together, according to the science indicators of Thomson Reuters, the world leader in information for businesses and professionals.

That list annually identifies the most cited researchers in the world, the scientists appearing on it numbering around 3,000 and ranking among the top 1% of researchers cited.

“We’re especially proud that Mr. Bouvier has a place with the elite of scientific research,” stated Dr. Guy Sauvageau, chief executive officer of IRIC. “His research work in molecular pharmacology and in drug discovery are of capital importance. In addition, his involvement in the development of IRIC and his commitment to the new generation of scientists have been essential elements in the success of our institute.”

An expert in the field of cell signaling, Michel Bouvier along with his team have made a number of significant breakthroughs with regard to G-protein coupled receptors (GPCRs). His work on the molecular mechanisms in the regulation of this important class of therapeutic targets has led to paradigm shifts and contributed to the development of new drugs.

Mr. Bouvier joined IRIC in 2005 and contributed to the creation of IRICoR at the Université de Montréal (Institute for Research in Immunology and Cancer – Research Commercialization), a not-for-profit organization focusing on the discovery and commercialization of innovative drugs.
